Azurite: Illuminate Your Truth

Azurite with Malachite

Azurite is a copper bearing mineral with a chemical composition of Cu3 (CO3 )2 (OH)2. It is deep blue, and usually forms with another green copper mineral, Malachite.

It is generally found in Siberia, Greece, Romania, France, Scandinavia, Namibia, Australia, Arizona, and New Mexico.

The chemical composition of Azurite, Cu3 (CO3 )2 (OH)2, stands for three Copper atoms, three Carbon atoms, two Oxygen atoms, and two Hydrogen atoms. Azurite is heavy for a non-metallic mineral. On the Mohs Hardness Scale, it ranges from 3.5-4.

Azurite is usually found in the rock deposit of copper ore, Azurite is an indicator mineral in the search for sub-surface Copper Ore deposits. The discovery of Azurite usually means copper ore is near.

Historical Uses of Azurite

Throughout history, Azurite has been used to make pigments, dyes, and paints by many cultures.

  • The Ancient Egyptians mined it on the Sinai Peninsula to smelt down into copper and grind into pigment.

  • Into the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, Azurite was still being used to make pigments and paints. In fact, it was the most important pigment of all.

  • When exposed to heat and light, Azurite starts to blacken and turn to Malachite. As a result, many of the paintings from these periods are now starting to blacken and turn green.

Energetics & Metaphysics

Gemmy Azurite Blades

In general, blue stones are associated with renewal and rebirth, refreshing, and regulating.

But because of the deep, rich color and chemical composition of Azurite, its unique medicine can be summed up in four words: insight, vision, intuition & intellect.

Azurite is also…

  • Indicated for the Third Eye and Crown (6th and 7th) Chakra

  • Stone of inner vision used for enhancement of dreams & the development of psychic abilities

  • Associated with taking time after a major life event to reflect before really moving on. (For example, after someone passes, graduation, or other major life transition)

  • Aids in the retention and assimilation of new information/ideas and helps to cultivate clarity and focus. This makes it an excellent stone ally for students or anyone learning a new, challenging subject (such as someone starting a new job)

  • Strengthens astral/etheric bodies, making one less vulnerable to psychic attacks/attachments (great for empaths to wear every day!)

  • Assists in exploring past/alternative lifetimes and in recovering knowledge from those lifetimes

  • Illuminates inner sight to see where motives are honestly based. This helps with spiritual seeking for the highest good, not for personal gain/ego fulfillment

  • Ideal for truth seekers since it strengthens non-judgemental discernment
